CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Joplin boys and the Carthage girls claimed team titles Thursday at the Carthage Invitational Track and Field meet at Carthage High School.
The Joplin boys finished with 120 points. Carthage was runner-up with 114.5 points, and Carl Junction was third with 105 points. Webb City finished fourth (93.5) and Neosho was fifth (87.5).
On the girls side, Carthage posted 138 points to claim first place and Webb City was runner-up with 130.5. Joplin was third (122) and Carl Junction fifth (80).
Joplin
Joplin turned in a 1-2 finish in both the boys 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Avarus Kuhn Wofford won the 110-meter race (15.52) and the 300-meter race (40.82). Teammate Isaiah Thom was second in the 110-meter race (16.21) and also runner-up (42.22) in the 300-meter event. Haydyn Goumaz was fifth (17.19) in the 110-meter race.
The Eagles captured the top two spots in the boys discus. Brennen Washington earned first (47 meters) and Neil Barstow was second (46.36 meters). Barstow won the boys shot put with a 14.8-meter toss.
Ava Doll won the girls 1,600-meter race (5:33.24) and the 3,200-meter event (11:26.07).
The boys 4x100-meter relay team (names not available) finished first with a time of 44.61 and the 4x200-meter team was third (1:34.41).
Kendall Nyarango won the girls long jump (4.95 meters) and Micah Holden won the girls 100-meter hurdles (16.51). Holden also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (52.71).
The girls 4x200-meter relay team (names not available) won their race with a time of 1:48.21, and the Eagle girls also captured first in the 4x100-meter race (50.23).
Aiden Scourten was runner-up in the boys long jump with a 6.22-meter performance and Maria Loum was second in the girls pole vault (2.94 meters). Scourten also finished third in the boys triple jump (12.5 meters).
Brylee Strickland was third in the girls 400-meter dash (1:01.95) and 200-meter race (26.17), and Loum was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.25).
Joplin sprinter Tayshaun Palmer finished fourth among 23 runners in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.55 and Noe Fischer was fourth in the boys 800-meter run (2:13.17).
Strickland (12.74) and Phia Vogel (12.96) finished fourth and fifth in the girls 100-meter dash. Vogel also was fifth in the 200-meter race (27.17).
Daren Gilmore was fifth in the boys pole vault (2.98 meters) and Loum was fifth in the girls 300-meter hurdles (53.17).
Carthage
Carthage's Henry Laytham captured first in the boys 800-meter run (1:58.26) and also won the 1,600-meter race (4:27.89).
Laytham added to his win total with a first-place performance in the high jump (1.78 meters).
The boys 4x400-meter relay (Braxton McBride, Laytham, Marlon Cifuentes and Brody Jackson) also finished in first place with a time of 3:34.76 and the 4x800-meter team was second (9:19.26).
Willis (16.90) and Jaidyn Brunnert (18.20) were second and third in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Willis also finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles (52.07).
Ada Roughton was runner-up in the girls triple jump (10.03 meters) and teammate London Shepherd was third (9.98 meters). Shepherd also finished fourth in the girls long jump (4.78 meters).
The girls 4x800-meter relay (Maggie Boyd, Jenna Calhoon, Lauren Carney and Evelyn Carrol) was runner-up (10:46.86) and the girls 4x100-meter team (Ashleigh Rowden, Shepherd, Elsi Willis and Leigha Youngblood) also was second (50.95).
Boyd, Carrol, Shepherd and Lexa Youngblood finished second in the girls 4x400-meter relay (4:24.30).
