Athletes of the Week: Auburn High Girls Soccer

AUBURN (WRBL) – The Auburn High Girls Soccer team’s defense of the AHSAA Class 7A State Championship has seen teams from around the state take their best shot to take the team down. But the Lady Tigers are 10-2-1 so far this season, outscoring teams by a 60-7 margin on the field. Auburn is currently ranked 13th in the country and 2nd in Alabama by MaxPreps. The success this team has had facing top competition has served as more motivation for the team.

I mean, it means a lot because since we’re getting everybody’s best game, we have to play our best and come out and work harder than everybody else.

Claire Nappier, Senior Right Wing

Definitely a challenge, but it’s an honor out of everything. I love coming out here and getting to compete, especially with this team, and I think it gives us a big leg up on other teams knowing that every single time we play, it’s going to be everybody’s best game.

Laila Simmons, Senior Centerback

Head Coach Bill Ferguson is in his 5th season with the program, and the way this team operates makes them easy to coach.

Oh, it’s a blast. I mean, every time they step on the field, you have the potential to see something incredible. They’re very team oriented. They move the ball well, they encourage each other. And so as a coach, it’s kind of a dream. They start on time, they get work in. We just played last night, got a solid victory and they’re here already, you know, ran a significant fitness tests earlier just before you got here. So they’re, they’re conditioned to work hard. And it’s it’s pretty easy.
