Men's golf: IHCC finishes seventh at Butler Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The sixth-ranked Indian Hills men's golf team placed seventh overall at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on Tuesday. The Warriors were led by freshman Roman Roth at the Highland Golf and Country Club.

Competing against the likes of Butler University, DePaul University and the University of Loyola-Chicago, the Warriors placed seventh overall in the 13-team field. Indian Hills finished the 54-hole event with a 25-over, 865. The Warriors fired round scores of 291-287-287-865 for the team's fifth top-seven finish of the year.

Roth, ranked No. 34 in the latest national rankings, led the Warriors for the second time this season after posting a five-over-par 215 to finish tied for 27th. Roth posted back-to-back rounds of 73 before a strong finish to close out the tournament with a one-under-par 69 in the third round.

Nathan Pouchoulon and Daniel Freeman both tied for 39th overall. Pouchoulon opened the tournament near the top of the leaderboard, tying for the second-lowest score of the opening round with a 68. Freeman finished with his lowest tournament of the year, posting a seven-over-par 217. After an opening round 75, Freeman found his groove down the stretch, closing out the tournament with round scores of 70 and 72. The freshman led the Warriors with seven birdies in the event.

Jedd Thomas tied for 45th overall with an eight-over-par 218 while Emilio Arellano Lamas tied for 52nd overall with a nine-over-par 219.

Indian Hills has a quick turnaround as the Warriors will travel to Silvis, Illinois for the Western Illinois Invitational Friday and Saturday at TPC Deere Run.
