Bucs restructure Baker Mayfield's contract ahead of NFL Draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a busy offseason on several fronts. The team lost assistant general manager John Spytek to the Raiders, where he will now lead his own franchise, and they also lost star coordinator Liam Coen to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite those hiccups, Jason Licht has remained busy filling those voids while also being self-aware of what could help the team.

The biggest area of need is salary cap space, and Licht has been busy reworking contracts. He added another name to that list over the weekend.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield signed a three-year, $110 million deal last offseason, and after one year, he looks poised to outperform that by a wide margin. As we mentioned, Jason Licht did rework his contract over the weekend and saved the Bucs an additional $14 million in salary cap space as a result.

This marks Jason Licht and his staff's third contract restructure in recent weeks. Through the new contracts they have done with Antoine Winfield Jr., Tristan Wirfs, and now Baker Mayfield, they have saved $49.36 million in cap space as a result.

Could Jason Licht be positioning himself for a major move? Could he make a trade or move up in the draft? Stay tuned.
