Falcons visit with South Carolina DL prospect ahead of draft

The Atlanta Falcons released defensive cornerstone Grady Jarrett at the start of NFL free agency, leaving a big hole along their defensive line. While the team has some in-house options to replace Jarrett, including 2024 draft picks Ruke Orhorhoro and Brandon Dorlus, don't be surprised if Atlanta adds another defensive lineman in the draft.

The Falcons could target a defensive tackle in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, but most assume they'll address the edge rusher spot before adding another interior defensive lineman.

With just two picks over the first two days of the draft, though, the team has limited options to upgrade its front seven outside of the second round. Since Atlanta's biggest needs are on defense, we'd be shocked if the team takes an offensive player early in the draft.

One player who's on the Falcons' radar is South Carolina defensive tackle T.J. Sanders. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Atlanta was one of a handful of teams to visit with Sanders over the past week.

Sanders is a 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle who thrives as a pass rusher. Over the last two seasons, Sanders has racked up 10 sacks and 35 QB hurries for South Carolina. His athleticism should translate to the NFL level but he could use a little more strength and refinement in againtst the run. Pro Football Focus lists Sanders as the 38th prospect on their 2025 big board.
