Texans meet with top FCS OT Charles Grant for top 30 visit ahead of NFL Draft

The Houston Texans won't leave this year's NFL draft without taking at least two linemen. That doesn't mean Josh Simmons or Kelvin Banks has to be the answer in Round 1 to ensure the offensive line improves.

One name to monitor on Day 2 is William & Mary's Charles Grant, who continues to move up draft boards into the Day 2 chatter after a promising workout. Recently, he paid a visit to NRG Stadium.

According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, Grant visited the Texans as one of their top 30 visits. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Tribe lineman has visits lined up with the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles Baltimore Ravens later this week.

Grant, a Senior Bowl all-star game selection, also has visits lined up with the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, per Wilson. According to Wilson, he also has private workouts with the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.

A two-time FCS All-American and team captain, Grant allowed just two sacks over the past three seasons as the starting left tackle for the Tribe. Throughout his career, hs's started 36 collegiate games, posting the highest pass-blocking grade among FCS tackles, per Pro Football Focus from 2023-24.

Last month at his Pro Day, over two dozens teams were reportedly in attendance. Measuring in at 6-foot-5 and weighing 311 pounds, Grant also ensured his home was at tackle and not guard, displaying 34 3/4 arms and 10 1/4 hands. He also posted a 5.09 40-time while putting 20 reps on the bench press.

Grant also had a 27-inch vertical leap and an 8-11 broad jump. He's now considered a lock to land on Day 2 and could secure a top-50 nod with an impressive showing in meetings.

Much like Simmons, Grant is coming off an in-season knee injury that prevented him from participating in the NFL scouting combine and the Senior Bowl. He still proved capable of working out at full speed, meaning he should be cleared for all drills during OTAs later this offseason.

The Texans have seven picks in the upcoming draft, including four in the top 100. Should Houston land a receiver or offensive guard in Round 1, Grant very well could be the pick at either No. 58 or. No. 79.
