Stonewall baseball coach Dillon Monday feels like he’s assembled some of the best competition available for the 2025 Stonewall Invitational scheduled for April 17-19 at Gibson Field.
“I think our tournament is one of the better tournaments in the state. There will be multiple state tournament teams in it and every game played will be between ranked opponents,” Monday told The Ada News. “There should be some great baseball being played during that week.”
Following are the schools included in the eight-team bracket and their rankings and records as of press time.
— Wister enters this week ranked No. 3 in Class A-1 and is 11-2 so far this spring. Both of the Wildcats’ losses came at the hands of Rattan, ranked No. 1 in Class A-II. Wister owns the lone victory over District 4A-1 powerhouse Byng this season.
— Vici is off to a 12-3 start to the season and is ranked No. 14 in Class B. The Indians have won 11 of their past 12 games.
— Red Oak is sitting at No. 5 in Class A-II and is 11-3. The Eagles have won seven of their past eight outings. Their only loss during that span came to Class B No. 5 Battiest.
— The Caddo Bruins are 11-4 and the No. 6 team in Class A-I. Caddo was scheduled to face Ada Friday night in the semifinals of the Kingston Baseball Tournament.
— Stuart enters next week at 8-2 and is the No. 3 squad in Class B. The Hornets edged Stonewall 4-2 earlier this week.
— Boswell is sitting at No. 9 in Class B. The Scorpions are 9-5 on the year and have won four of their past five outings.
— Local squad Tupelo got off to a very un-Tiger-like 4-7 start to the year but coach Clay Weller’s Tigers are still ranked No. 16 in Class B. Tupelo topped Class 3A Valliant Thursday at the Atoka Wood Bat Tournament before dropping a 4-3 decision to Amber-Pocasset — ranked No. 7 in Class A-1 — later that night in tournament play.
“Every team in the tournament is currently ranked in the Top 20, many of which are in the Top 8. I think this is one of the best tournaments — if not the best small-school tournament in the state,” Monday reiterated.
Monday is also confident his team can be one of the best in Class A-II when push comes to shove. The Longhorns are the No. 8 team in Class A-II and have won six of nine contests. Their losses during that run were to Class 4A Ada, the Stuart Hornets and Class 3A Kingston.
Monday said if his Longhorns keep working hard and improving, they could make some noise not only in their tournament but in the postseason.
“I think we’ve been playing some pretty good ball as of late and hope to keep that trend rolling into the next few weeks,” he said. “The guys have bought in and we are hoping to make a good run in playoffs.”
