In the latest mock draft from Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded out of the top 10 and added a big playmaking presence to their offense.
Rather than staying put at five and picking Mason Graham like many other mock drafts, Fornelli had the Jaguars trading back to pick No. 11 with the San Francisco 49ers.
Fornelli didn't get into specifics regarding what the Jaguars received in return for this trade. However, if we use the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart as our guide, the Jaguars getting the 49ers' second-round pick at 43 overall would be a fair trade.
So, now at pick No. 11, who did the Jaguars pick? Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
"I know Jacksonville is high on Brenton Strange, but Warren is such an intriguing weapon that he'd be hard to pass up here," wrote Fornelli. "He's a tight end, but he doesn't have to play at tight end. Liam Coen could find plenty of ways to get him and Strange on the field together along with Brian Thomas Jr."
The additions of Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long in free agency likely won't stop the Jaguars from further adding to the tight end position for the right player. Also, Warren brings a much different skill set to the offense.
Warren totaled over 100 receptions and 1,200 yards in 2024, but his impact goes beyond the passing game. Warren can line up across the formation, including in the backfield, and is a capable run blocker.
When a team has a tight end who can impact the game in a variety of ways, it adds a layer of unpredictability to an offense, and can help add to the "illusion of complexity," as Liam Coen calls it. Skill set-wise, Warren feels like an excellent fit for this system.
Now, while we can see why the pick makes sense, with more pressing needs elsewhere and tight end not a premium position, should the Jaguars spend a first-round pick here? The fact that they now have 11 picks in total following this hypothetical trade, including five in the top 100, gives them the flexibility to go that route if it's deemed the prudent move.
