STONEWALL — After two wild and crazy wins to start the day Saturday at the 2025 Beast of the East Tournament in Stonewall, the Latta High School softball team couldn’t get over the hump in the finals against Silo.
The Lady Rebels used a seventh-inning rally to edge Latta 7-6 in the first game before turning back the Lady Panthers 7-2 in the if-necessary game to capture the championship.
Latta opened play Saturday with a 25-22 marathon win over Kiowa and then held off Tishomingo 17-11 to earn a spot in the finals.
Latta, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, started this week off at 8-4. Class 4A No. 3 Silo, which had to win five consecutive games Saturday to claim the championship, improved to 11-2. Tishomingo, No. 20 in 4A, left the tournament at 9-5 and Kiowa — No. 3 in Class A — fell to 11-3 after two Saturday setbacks.
Latta kicked off a busy week at Wilson on Monday and is scheduled to host Turner and Plainview in a festival tonight at Swanson Field.
Latta will then welcome Bristow to town at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Silo 7, Latta 2
Latta used a pair of singles by Rylee Jones and Audrey Forshay to score a run in the top of the first inning. But Silo responded three runs in the bottom of the first that included a two-run bomb from Neely Jo House.
Ayzia Booth led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run that sliced the Silo advantage to 3-2. However, Latta’s potent offense went silent from there.
Silo hit two more homers in the bottom of the fifth inning — a two-run blast by Bree Ginn and a solo shot by Jayci Webb — to increase the lead to 6-2.
The Lady Rebels tacked on one final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Latta piled up 10 total hits but stranded nine base runners in the game.
Taylor and Taryn Cotanny had two hits apiece for Latta. Rylee Jones also registered two hits and scored a run.
House led a 15-hit Silo offense, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Connie Tubby went 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored a run and Ginn went 2-for-3.
Silo 7, Latta 6
This is the one that got away from Latta.
The Lady Panthers were two outs from securing the championship, but Silo got back-to-back solo home runs with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning from Neely Jo House and Paetyn Garrett to steal the walk-off victory.
Latta had trailed 6-1 before scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning to speed in front 6-5.
Latta had six singles in the flurry, including a run-scoring hit by Audrey Forshay with two outs that capped the LHS volley and gave the locals their 6-5 advantage.
House finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored to pace a 14-hit Silo attack. Garrett went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and Connie Tubby finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored.
Bree Ginn went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Kamrey Hendricks also had two hits for the Lady Rebels.
Kymber Davis paced Latta at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with an RBI. Leadoff hitter Rylee Jones went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Ayzia Booth, Savannah Senkel and Forshay all had two hits apiece for Latta.
Latta 17, Tishomingo 11
The game was tied up at 11-11 before Latta scored six times in the top of the sixth inning to finally secure the win.
The Lady Panthers piled up a whopping 24 hits in the contest. Rylee Jones finished 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, seven RBIs and three runs scored from her leadoff spot.
Audrey Forshay, Taylor Cotanny and Kymber Davis all had three hits each. Forshay finished 3-for-5, Davis went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored and Cotanny finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Kieranie Williams finished 2-for-4 with a double for Latta.
