PFF names best Day 3 fit for Commanders in NFL draft

The Washington Commanders have only five picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Thanks to trades for cornerback Marshon Lattimore, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and left tackle Laremy Tunsil, the Commanders have just two picks in the first three rounds and three selections on Day 3.

Washington could add more picks by trading down, but that's never guaranteed, as you need to find teams willing to move up. Of course, it becomes much easier to move down once you get past the first round.

Pro Football Focus recently picked the best Day 3 fit for all 32 NFL teams. For Washington, PFF selected North Carolina EDGE Kaimon Rucker.

Rucker is a smart, sound outside linebacker with quick hands and natural leverage. The North Carolina product generated an 80.0-plus PFF pass-rush grade in each of his last two college seasons, also charting in the 93rd percentile in pass-rush win rate over that span. He can be a reliable rotational rusher in Dan Quinn’s scheme.

Rucker is on the shorter side for an edge (6-foot-1) but has good length. He would be more of a situational pass rusher for the Commanders and would not fill their most significant need. If Washington adds a pass rusher earlier in the draft and Rucker is available sometime on Day 3, he'd be an excellent pick to bring for several snaps per game. Washington coach Dan Quinn is outstanding at getting the most out of a player's best skill.
