Which prospect should Carolina Panthers fans keep in mind for the third and final day of the 2025 NFL draft?
Pro Football Focus analyst Mason Cameron recently named the best Day 3 fits for each team. For the Panthers, he tabs Ohio State University safety Lathan Ransom—who could help patch up a few deficiencies in the secondary.
After finishing 2024 in the bottom eight in takeaways and dead last in PFF run-defense grade (37.5), the Panthers could use playmakers in the secondary who aren’t afraid to mix it up in the run game. Ransom is a tone-setter on the backend, having earned the highest PFF run-defense grade (93.5) in college football this past season, thanks to his knack for peanut-punching out the football any chance he gets.
Carolina has already made a notable addition at the position this offseason, signing former Las Vegas Raider Tre'von Moehrig to a three-year, $51 million pact. The soon-to-be fifth-year veteran is expected to start as the unit's strong safety.
Ransom, a starter for the national champion Buckeyes and a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024, could be a fit behind Moehrig on the depth chart. In addition to his strong run defense, the physical six-foot, 206-pounder forced a conference-leading three fumbles this past season.
The Panthers are currently in possession of six picks for Day 3 of the draft, including two fourth-rounders and three fifth-rounders.
