Rivals250 prospect and four-star running back Carsyn Baker is an emerging running back target for Florida State.
Baker wrapped up day one of his multi-day visit to Tallahassee on Tuesday following the Seminoles' seventh spring practice. With it being his first ever visit to campus, Baker will return on Wednesday to get an extended look before departing back to Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes.
Even in the short time that Baker has been on campus, the Seminoles have made a great first impression on the No. 8 running back in the country.
"The energy that the coaching staff with Coach Norvell," Baker said on what stood out about the visit. "He's a very energized coach. I learned things with Coach YAC (David Johnson) inside the meeting room and stuff like that."
The relationship between Florida State and Baker began when coach Mike Norvell and Johnson visited him at Langston Hughes. They offered Baker in-person and since then, their relationship has only grown.
"He made me feel like a part of the room already. There's a great vibe and great energy with them — just like the great coach he is," Baker said on Johnson.
"He's one of them ones ... Florida State is definitely one of my top schools and will continue to get visits from me," he later added. "We just have been building this relationship. I'm just now getting on campus and I loved it for the first time. It was a great first impression of Florida State."
Baker also got a look at the offense that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is bringing to the table. Malzahn was recruiting Baker previously at UCF and his pedigree is another big reason why the Seminoles are a top team in his recruitment.
"The backs he has produced over the last couple of years... you know he likes to run the football. With him being at Florida State, it's leading to them running the ball a lot. I can definitely see myself fitting into the type of offense that he runs," Baker said. "I would love to go somewhere that I can be used inside of a great offensive scheme. And with Coach Gus I think it's a great scheme he has."
Baker may return for another practice before taking his official visit with the Seminoles. If he does not return before his official visit, he is slated to be in Tallahassee on June 6 for said official. Ohio State, Clemson and Texas A&M are the other top programs in his recruitment and will also get officials from Baker.
