The Chicago Bears will have several options with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But one name that's emerging as a contender is Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, who has been hailed as the best tight end in this draft class.
While offensive and defensive line have been the popular mocked picks for Chicago at No. 10, new head coach Ben Johnson could look to add more weapons around second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. And it certainly sounds like the Bears are interested in Warren.
"He's the definition of a football player," Johnson told CHGO Monday at the NFL Owners Meeting in Florida.
Johnson detailed one instance where Warren's potential in this Bears offense was prevalent. During a meeting that also included general manager Ryan Poles, assistant GM Ian Cunningham, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, they examined the 20-30 best prospects in the draft.
When it was Warren's turn, Johnson remembers Allen's reaction to watching Warren's film, and it sounded like a ringing endorsement for Warren, should he be available at 10th overall.
"Tyler got up there and to me, what I'll always remember, is Dennis Allen speaking up about how much of a headache it would be to go against a player like that. Not only is he a tenacious football player, but he blocks, he runs hard. but the fact that you can put him in the backfield and do some wild cat with him, we felt like that was kind of unique."
With Chicago making a slew of moves to address the trenches in free agency, Poles said it's opened up their draft board, which means it could be about best player available come No. 10.
While the Bears already have a playmaking tight end in Cole Kmet, who signed an extension in July 2023, the potential of adding Warren to the mix would be exciting get for Johnson's offense.
