Rocky Mountain baseball player voted Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week

This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week award is back on the baseball diamond for the second straight week.

Rocky Mountain baseball player Riley Honick took top honors in the Fort Collins area for the week of March 24-29 after a big week at the plate.

The Lobos outfielder went a combined 6-for-8 with 8 RBIs, including a home run, two doubles and a triple across two games in a dominant series sweep over Greeley West.

Rocky (6-2) is 5-0 against Colorado competition so far this season and is ranked No. 11 in CHSSA's latest Class 5A seeding index ranking.

Honick has been a key part of it, batting .407 with 11 hits and three stolen bases in his junior campaign.

He is the second straight Rocky baseball player to win the award, joining teammate Ross Frank last week.

Lobos fans showed out again at the polls, pushing Honick ahead with a slim plurality of the vote at 46.6%.

That ultimately earned him Athlete of the Week over these other fantastic nominees:

  • Kate Wind, PSD girls lacrosse (runner-up with 45%)
  • Charlie Nosler, Fort Collins boys track & field
  • Nevaeh Winfrey, Rocky Mountain girls track & field
  • Mason Griffin, Fossil Ridge baseball

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named Thursday.

Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the nominees each week.

If you have nominations for a future Athlete of the Week, please send them via email to ChrisAbshire@coloradoan.com for consideration.
