Seven athletes from across the High Desert are in the running for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from March 24-29.
- Caden Wharton, Granite Hills baseball — Wharton tossed a complete game, allowing one hit with five strikeouts as Granite Hills beat Adelanto 5-1 on March 26. He also went 1 for 5 with a RBI and a run. Wharton tossed two innings, striking out five batters in two hitless innings, while going 1 for 4 with a RBI and two runs as the Cougars beat Victor Valley 7-5 in extra innings on March 28.
- Isac Gamez, Sultana baseball — Gamez drove in seven runs in a pair of victories for the Sultans as they ended the first round of Mojave River League action unbeaten. Gamez went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, a run and a stolen base in a 15-5 victory over Hesperia on March 25. He followed that up by going 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base in a 12-6 victory over Apple Valley on March 27.
- Jacob Webster, Oak Hills baseball — Webster had a huge day in Oak Hills’ lone game of the week. Webster went 3 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs and a stolen base in a 9-5 victory over Hesperia on March 27. He also struck out two batters in an inning of work.
- Kathryn McCartney, Granite Hills softball — McCartney had a huge week in leading the Cougars to three victories. She went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in an 11-9 victory over Excelsior on March 24, while also striking out seven batters and allowing three earned runs on six hits over seven innings. McCartney hit for the cycle in a 16-6 victory over Adelanto on March 26. She ended 4 for 5 with five RBIs and three runs, also pitching five innings, with two strikeouts and allowed three earned runs on seven hits. McCartney ended the week by going 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run and a stolen base in a 6-4 victory over Victor Valley on March 28.
- Savannah Vanderpool, Sultana softball — Vanderpool led the Sultans to victory in their lone game of the week to wrap up the nonleague slate of games. Vanderpool struck out 11 batters in a five-inning no-hitter as Sultana beat Beaumont 10-0 on March 26. At the plate, she went 3 for 3 with four RBIs.
- Timothey Yrigoyen, Silver Valley baseball — Yrigoyen led the Trojans to an 8-3 victory over Lucerne Valley on March 25 as he struck out 13 batters and allowed two hits over five innings. Yrigoyen also went 2 for 3 with a RBI, a run ...
