Vote: The Arizona Republic's High School Athletes of the Week, March 24-29

Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boy’s and girl’s athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls below. Voting will close at 6 p.m. on April 3 and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Republic on April 5 (print readers can find the polls at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools). Girls

Kylie Bates, Buckeye Verrado, softball, Sr.: She went 5-for-6 at the plate with 9 RBIs, hitting three doubles, as the Vipers beat Tolleson, San Luis and Goodyear Desert Edge by a combined score of 41-9 last week.

Tessa Wachtel, Scottsdale Desert Mountain, tennis, Sr.: She went 2-0 last week in her singles matches, beating Chandler Hamilton 6-2, 6-1 in two sets on March 25 and Phoenix Sunnyslope 6-0, 6-0 in two sets on March 27. Also won both of her doubles matches by the same score, 8-1.

MacLane Clark, Gilbert Perry, track and field, Jr.: She won the 100-meter hurdles (14.69 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (45.15) at the Toro Invite, running the No. 3 time in the state for 100-hurdles and No. 8 for the 300-hurdles.

Boys

Lucas Shannon, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, baseball, Sr.: He went 6-for-9 at the plate with seven RBIs, hitting one home run and two doubles, as the Lancers beat Tucson Mica Mountain and Sahuarita Walden Grove (twice) by a combined score of 36-4 last week.

Travis Boyd, Phoenix Shadow Mountain, tennis, Sr.: He went 2-0 last week in his singles matches, beating Gilbert Mesquite 6-1, 6-2 in two sets on March 25 and Phoenix Arcadia 6-4, 6-2 in two sets on March 26. Also won both of his doubles matches, 8-2 against Mesquite and 8-4 against Arcadia.

Wyatt Nicholas, Thatcher, track and field, Sr.: He won the high jump at the Thomas Meixner Lancer Invitational in Tucson on March 29, clearing 6 feet, 7 inches to set the new state lead in the event.
