Blue FCU Athlete of the Week nominees

The following Fort Collins-area athletes are nominated for their performances from March 24-29:

  • Mason Griffin, Fossil Ridge baseball: The senior slugger crushed the Lambkins' pitching in Fossil's two-game city rivalry sweep over Fort Collins last week. Griffin went a combined 6-for-7, compiling 9 RBIs with a homer, two triples and a double as the SaberCats won by 10 runs in each game.
  • Riley Honick, Rocky Mountain baseball: It was a similar story for the Lobos junior, who provided the biggest offensive punch in Rocky's two-game sweep over new league foe Greeley West. Honick went a combined 6-for-8 with 8 RBIs, a home run, two triples and a double as Rocky won each game by 17 runs.
  • Charlie Nosler, Fort Collins boys track & field: The Lambkins senior showed out at the local showcase in the Jack Christiansen Invite that also served as the district meet. Nosler set a new personal-record time to win the 110-meter hurdles and took second in the 300 hurdles. He also ran on Fort Collins' winning 4x100 relay unit as the FCHS boys won the team title in the weather-shortened event.
  • Kate Wind, PSD girls lacrosse: The Stars finished a strong 2-1 week on the lacrosse pitch, and the junior attacker had plenty to do with it. Wind scored 15 goals with three assists across the three matches, including the walk-off game-winner in a 10-9 win vs. Chatfield and six goals in 15-8 win over Horizon.
  • Nevaeh Winfrey, Rocky Mountain girls track & field: The Lobos sophomore swept 100-meter dash and high jump titles at the Jack Christiansen, setting new PRs in each. Winfrey's 100 time of 12.24 seconds and her jump of 5 feet, 6 inches also qualified as MileSplit elite performances, meeting the US Second Team national standard.
