PFF draws up first-round trade for Chargers in 2025 NFL draft

Equipped with ten selections in the 2025 NFL draft, the Chargers have the ammo to move up for a player if they choose to.

Pro Football Focus laid out a scenario in which Los Angeles would trade up in the first round, moving up six spots with the Cardinals to get Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. Arizona received the Bolts' third-round pick (No. 86 overall) and a sixth-round pick (No. 181 overall).

Although something is better than nothing, the Chargers' need at receiver remains. Considering the talent drop-off at the position and many teams being in need and drafting ahead of Los Angeles, general manager Joe Hortiz can’t afford to let an opportunity to add to the group slip past him a second time. The Chargers would be wise to move up to beat the run on receivers, selecting a talent like Matthew Golden or perhaps Tetairoa McMillan — PFF’s third-ranked prospect — should either slide past the top 15.

The Chargers enter the draft needing to add another reliable receiver. However, it's unlikely that they would move up for Golden, who has been projected in many mock drafts to be available when they're on the clock at pick No. 22. Someone like Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan would be more of a viable option to trade up for.

If Los Angeles wants to go receiver in Round 1, they're better off staying put and drafting Golden or Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka. If they wait until Day 2, there will still be other good options, including Iowa State's Jayden Higgins, Ole Miss' Tre Harris, Stanford's Elic Ayomanor, and Utah State's Jalen Royals.
