A new week means another chance to highlight the elite athletes hailing from Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas.
This week in spring sports, some 337 teams made the trek to Kenner to compete in the LHSAA Powerlifting State Championships. This state meet marks the final state championship for winter sports in the 2024-25 school year. So far, the Church Point girls' power lifting team has already snagged a state championship on the Division III level.
With state championships and district wins on the line, these six athletes gave it their all, earning them a spot in this week’s Athlete of the Week poll.
This week's poll includes athletes from the following winter and spring sports: softball, baseball, and power lifting. The poll can be found at the bottom of the story and closes on Friday.

Parker Dies, baseball, Southside
In the Sharks district matchup vs New Iberia on March 24, Dies was locked in every time he came into the box. He was a key slugger for his team, finishing the game with a team-high three RBIs and a home run. Southside went on to beat the Yellowjackers 8-2.
Reaghan Gartman, powerlifting, Church Point
In the LHSAA Powerlifting State Championships, Gartman played a key role in her team’s first-place finish. In the Division III 105-pound weight class, Gartman took home first place, successfully lifting almost every one of her squats and deadlifts.
Mason Hidalgo, baseball, Lafayette Christian Academy
One of the Knights' clutch sluggers in their matchup vs Lake Arthur on March 26 for a district matchup. The senior outfielder led his team’s offense with three hits, helping them win the game 7-0. This makes LCA undefeated in district play so far this season.
