No. 6 LSU takes Game 2, clinches series against No. 9 Oklahoma baseball

Following Friday night's game against No. 6 LSU, the Oklahoma Sooners baseball team is on a two-series losing streak.

Unfortunately for the Sooners, that streak is two straight SEC series losses.

Ninth-ranked OU fell in Game 2 of its series against the Tigers, 10-2, in Norman. LSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, proving more than enough to own the series. It will go for the sweep on Saturday at 2 p.m. from L. Dale Mitchell Park.

LSU did most of its damage against Oklahoma starter Cade Crossland. Chris Stanfield and Derek Curiel hit back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the second inning to open things. Stanfield scored two, and Curiel followed by knocking in his teammate. Jared Jones immediately followed Curiel's double by driving him in with an RBI single. Each base hit came with two outs as Crossland was finished after five innings, allowing five runs on six hits, two walks, and a hit batter.

Oklahoma's bats, much like the night before, couldn't get going. The Sooners responded in the third inning with two runs to pull within two after Trey Gambill hit an RBI single and Jaxon Willits hit a run-scoring double. ,However the Sooners went without another hit until the sixth, by which point LSU had tacked on an insurance run.

For good measure, the Tigers added four more runs in the ninth to put OU away and clinch the series.

Gambill reached three times, going 1 for 2 with two walks, but Willits' hit, one of only six on the night for the Sooners, was the only one for extra bases. LSU, however, finished with 15 base hits, including four from Stanfield, the nine-hole hitter, who finished 4 for 5 with two doubles, four RBI, and a run.

OU fell to below .500 in league play at 5-6 and will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday.
