Georgia basketball loses assistant coach after three seasons with Mike White

Georgia basketball is heading into the offseason with Mike White needing to fill an opening on his staff for a new assistant coach.

Erik Pastrana, who came to Georgia with White from Florida in 2022, is joining the new coaching staff at Miami, a source confirmed to the Athens Banner-Herald Monday night.

It’s a move back home for Pastrana, a Miami native who graduated from Florida State and has coached at Florida International and Florida Atlantic.

Pastrana has been instrumental in Georgaia’s recruiting efforts including in helping to land five-star forward Asa Newell, a projected NBA first round draft in 2025.

Pastrana is joining a Miami staff led by head coach Jai Lucas who was hired after serving as an assistant coach at Duke.

White and the rest of his Bulldogs staff will work to add to the Bulldogs roster for next season after Georgia reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.

The transfer portal opened on Monday and runs through April 22.
