Former Westover basketball coach George Stackhouse tabbed to lead Berean Baptist
A familiar basketball coach will become the new leader for a private high school team in the NCISAA.
Longtime Westover basketball coach George Stackhouse has been named the new head coach at Berean Baptist Academy for next season after serving as an assistant coach under James Strong this past season.
The administration has decided to part ways with Strong after two seasons where he finished 37-31 overall, including a trip to the Sandhills Athletic Conference championship, where the Bulldogs lost to Trinity Christian.

"Coach Stackhouse brings 20-plus years of coaching experience, including positions at ECU, Westover, and Gray's Creek," Berean Baptist said in a statement on social media. After serving as our assistant coach last year, we are excited to see him step into this new role and lead our team to success."
Stackhouse coached varsity basketball at Westover for 22 years before announcing his retirement on July 27, 2024, with more than 400 wins and a year removed from leading the Wolverines to a 29-2 overall record and sweeping All American Conference titles before falling in the NCHSAA 3A East Regional finals to Seventy-First. He also led an undefeated season and a share of the NCHSAA 3-A state title for the Wolverines in 2020.
"I still plan on being involved with basketball in some capacity — I'm just carving out some time to try to live with more depth and do some of the things that I've had to put on the back burner for many years," Stackhouse told The Fayetteville Observer after retiring from Westover.
