Pitt hires former St. Francis men's volleyball player as an assistant coach
PITTSBURGH – After spending a season as volunteer assistant coach and two at director of operations, Michael Fisher has been named as an assistant coach of the Pitt women's volleyball program.
Fisher had a vital role in the past three national semifinal appearances and ACC championships.
"I'm pleased to announce the promotion of Michael Fisher to a coaching role," said coach Dan Fisher, who is not related to Michael Fisher. "The work he has done has helped our team to compete at the national level. Michael's improvement has been impressive. He is a rising star in the industry, and I'm happy he gets to stay at Pitt."
In addition to controlling the day-to-day operations in 2024, Fisher was a big factor in the scouting and data analytics efforts of the Panthers, helping Pitt to its most successful season in program history.
"I'd like to thank Coach Fisher for this opportunity," Michael Fisher said. "In my time here, I've been able to grow both as a professional and as a person, and I look forward to helping our students in their growth on and off the court. Hail to Pitt!"
Michael Fisher is a two-time graduate of St. Francis University with a bachelor's degree in finance (2020) and a master's of business administration (2021). The Mechanicsburg native competed for the Red Flash men's volleyball team for four years and garnered all-conference honors each season. A 6-foot-4 outside hitter, Michael Fisher led the Red Flash in total kills for three consecutive years (2019-21). He became the first in program history to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honors twice in his career, receiving honorable mentions in 2019 and 2021.
In addition to his endeavors as a student-athlete, Michael Fisher was a three-year member of the SFU Investment Club and coached Red Flash camps between 2016 and 2020. Since the fall of 2021, he has served as head coach of the Yorktown 15 Blue Boys club team, and additionally served as a volunteer assistant coach at Central Daulphin High School in Harrisburg.
