As Texas baseball stays red-hot, multiple Longhorns earn weekly SEC honors

On Monday, Longhorns stars Will Gasparino and Ruger Riojas added to their trophy cases. The talent duo earned SEC honors. As Texas finished last week with a perfect 4-0 record, Gasparino and Riojas were key to its success

At the plate, Gasparino was a hitting machine. He crushed five home runs while driving in 13 runs. The Longhorns outfielder was hard to get out, finishing the week with an impressive .533/.588/1.600 slash line. In three of Texas's four games, Gasparino had a home run. While the Los Angeles native made headlines with his bat, he also rewrote the record books.

In the series opener at Missouri, Gasparino drove in eight runs. He became just the third Texas player with eight RBI in a contest since 2008, joining Brandon Belt and Porter Brown. As Gasparino led the offense, Riojas was stellar on the mound.

The talented right-hander helped the Longhorns secure a sweep over Missouri with a career-best seven shutout innings. That stellar performance included ten strikeouts and zero walks. He became the first Longhorn to pitch seven innings or have double-digit strikeouts in a game this season.

So far this season, five Longhorns have won weekly awards. That includes Luke Harrison, Adrian Rodriguez, and Dylan Volantis. As the Longhorns look to build on their success and continue to be one of the best teams in the SEC, more conference honors could be on the horizon.

With Gasparino locked in at the plate and Riojas off to an impressive start, Texas is a team primed for a special 2025 campaign.
