Wisconsin football class of 2026 quarterback target Sean Johnson committed to Florida State on Thursday.
Johnson chose the Seminoles over top contenders Wisconsin, Penn State and Maryland Terrapins. Other schools in the mix included Virginia, NC State, South Carolina, Indiana, Michigan State and Syracuse.
Wisconsin previously made Johnson's top 10 schools in early February. The Badgers were then one of just three programs to schedule an official visit with the three-star cornerback -- he's set to visit Penn State on May 16, Wisconsin on May 30 and Florida State on June 13. It's unclear if Johnson will still take visits, other than to Florida State.
247Sports currently ranks the three-star prospect as the No. 513 player in the class of 2026, No. 44 cornerback and No. 9 recruit from his home state of Maryland. He joins a Florida State class of 2026 that currently ranks No. 17 nationally with nine players committed. Wisconsin, meanwhile, is down at No. 47 with four early commitments. One is from a cornerback: three-star Carsen Eloms.

Wisconsin is likely to focus on the secondary positions, specifically cornerback, in the upcoming recruiting class. The team saw a significant portion of its depth at the position enter the transfer portal during the winter window. Those departures include former top recruits Amare Snowden (committed to Toledo) and Xavier Lucas (committed to Miami).
Big picture, the Badgers have significant work left to replicate their consecutive top-25 finishes in the last two recruiting cycles. Luke Fickell and his staff are tasked with doing so without former general manager Max Stienecker, who left for a top position at USC.
While early, the program is still searching for its first blue-chip commitment of the cycle.
