The No. 21 Clemson Tigers held off a late rally to defeat NC State, 8-7, on Saturday, clinching the weekend series behind big performances from veterans Maddie Moore and Alex Brown.
Brown kicked off the scoring with a solo home run to straightaway center on a full-count pitch, marking the 200th hit of her college career. The senior, who transferred from North Carolina, finished with three hits and three runs scored, bringing her career total to 202.
Moore reached a major milestone of her own, swiping her 47th career base in the second inning to become Clemson’s all-time leader, passing McKenzie Clark. But the senior shortstop wasn’t done. In the sixth inning, with Clemson trailing 4-3, Moore blasted a two-run homer to reclaim the lead. An inning later, she added a three-run shot — her 12th of the season — pushing the Tigers ahead, 8-4. Her five RBIs marked a career high and brought her season total to 52, the second-highest single-season mark in program history.
Clemson collected 12 hits on the day, including two each from Aby Vieira and Taylor Pipkins. Pipkins also drove in two runs, including a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth.
