Mountain View Prep's Jaylen McGill, No. 1 running back in South Carolina, commits to UNC football

Mountain View Prep junior running back Jaylen McGill announced Saturday on social media he has committed to North Carolina football.

McGill was previously committed to Rutgers but decommitted just three weeks later in mid-February. According to his posts, he visited UNC on April 2, four days after a trip to Tennessee, and had another scheduled for April 27 at Georgia.

The 5-foot-10, 200 pound McGill is ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 overall player in South Carolina for the Class of 2026 and the No. 18 running back in the country.

He rushed for 1,658 yards (10.2 per carry) and 24 touchdowns last season, adding another 379 yards and seven TDs on 22 catches.

McGill has 14 offers from ACC and SEC, schools, including Clemson and South Carolina. The others are Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia Tech. He has 30 offers in all.

Mountain View went 12-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 3-AAA as a first-year program. The Stars made it to the Class AAA Upper State championship game, where they lost to Belton-Honea Path and running back Marquise Henderson, a Clemson commit.

McGill transferred within the region to MVP from Broome, where he rushed 2,638 yards and 47 touchdowns in two seasons.

He is the only running back ranked by 247Sports in the state's top 20 players for the 2026 class. Dorman defensive back Kentavion Anderson is ranked No. 2 and is committed to Clemson. Gaffney quarterback Jayvon Gilmore is No. 4 and is committed to Arkansas.

Others from the Upstate are Christ Church wide receiver Jude Hall (uncommitted) at No. 12, Gaffney offensive lineman Scottland Dover (Appalachian State) at No. 13, Crescent wide receiver Amiri Acker (uncommitted) at No. 14, and Boiling Springs defensive back Jeremiah Favorite (uncommitted) at No. 17.
