Texas A&M (20-15, 6-9 SEC) is riding a six-game winning streak after sweeping South Carolina this weekend inside Blue Bell Park, capped off by Saturday's epic comeback win, which included consecutive grand slams from Hayden Schott and Kaeden Kent, producing eight runs after trailing 12-2 entering the bottom of the sixth.
Texas A&M's "clutch gene" has returned. While Kaeden Kent has become adept at hitting grand slams when the game is on the line, sophomore outfielder Caden Sorrell's solo game-winning home run in extra innings in Game 1 further proved that the previous offensive droughts have all but dissipated. However, time will tell with road tests against Arkansas and Texas up next.
Kent, who recorded four hits during his five plate appearances, took several questions from the local media after the game, discussing what went through his mind when he faced two outs with bases loaded, as the Aggies were down one score with a series sweep on the line.
"He was throwing a lot of fastballs, and he had a slider he was throwing, and, you know, I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit and drive the ball hard somewhere to score a couple of runs," Kent stated. "But, yeah, you approach every at-bat the same way, and as much as you wanted to say that that was the same, the moment was big, and the situation was big, and the crowd was into it. It just made the game so much more fun to play, and when you can enjoy playing, good things happen."
Kent went on to state that during his early struggles this season, the team and coaching staff had his back, which has paid off recently. Texas A&M's offense is on fire, scoring 80 runs during the six-game winning streak, which is nearly 30% of the team's total offense (279 runs) for the year.
Before facing Arkansas on the road, starting on Thursday, Texas A&M will host Tarleton State on Tuesday night, looking to extend its winning streak to seven games.
