Texas A&M (20-15, 6-9 SEC) is undoubtedly the hottest team in the county after sweeping South Carolina this weekend, ending with Saturday's incredible comeback 15-12 win after trailing 12-2, as the Aggies were all but done after allowing the Gamecocks scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, and continued adding and adding their final four runs in the sixth.
Throughout the 2025 season, Texas A&M's clutch gene has been non-existent. Still, since Caden Sorrell's walk-off home run in extra innings on Thursday night, the Aggies' swagger has slowly but surely crept back, and after run-ruling South Carolina 17-0 on Friday, Sunday looked like a tough but winnable final game of the series.
On the mound, Texas A&M's No. 3 starter Myles Patton was solid for most of the day but melted down in the fifth after allowing seven runs and giving the Gamecocks an 8-2 lead, ending his day early. While Clayton Freshcorn, Kaiden Wilson, and Luke Jackson allowed South Carolina's final four runs. However, senior Brad Rudis and Caden McCoy kept the Aggies clean with zero earned runs, giving the offense a chance to pull of a miracle.
After scoring just two runs through five innings, head coach Michael Earley deserves credit for keeping his team together and helping inspire what began one of the best comebacks of the 2025 season. Jace LaViolette's RBI in the 6th led to Blake Binderup's two-run homer in the seventh, and after Caden Sorrell's two-RBI double in the 8th, what looked like a dream soon became reality.
Trailing 12-7 with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Ben Royo, Binderup, and Kaeden Kent's patience at the plate loaded the bases, leading to 12th Man Hayden Schott's first hit of the game, resulting in a grand slam, and placing the Aggies in the improbable position of earning a result that seemed a million miles away heading into the final frame.
You thought that was exciting? After Jace LaViolette, Nathan Tobin, and Bear Harrison were walked with the help of the Aggie crowd in Blue Bell Park, Kaeden Kent, who had already recorded three hits on the day, was waiting for the right pitch with two outs, Gamecocks pitcher Caleb Jones threw an inside fastball that Kent crushed for the Aggies' second consecutive grand slam for the game-winner to sweep the visitors.
This team is hot, confident, and, most of all, resilient. While the schedule only gets tougher from here, Texas A&M's postseason chances have slowly increased.
