The Jets controlled the play in the first period, outshooting the Blackhawks 8-4, but a shorthanded goal by Nick Foligno and a power play goal by Connor Bedard had the Blackhawks up 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The Jets answered back in the second. Nino Niederreiter recorded his 17th of the season before Kyle Connor scored his 41st of the season to tie the game.
The Jets thought they completed the comeback after Josh Morrissey fired his 13th of the season past Spencer Knight. Their efforts came for not after Ryan Donato scored his 31st goal of the season, tying the game at 3-3 before Frank Nazar regained the Blackhawks' lead, scoring his 10th goal of the season. The third period continued to deliver, with Morrissey scoring his second of the game to tie it at 4-4.
Overtime solved nothing sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout, Bedard scored for the Blackhawks but goals by Connor and Cole Perfetti helped the Jets pick up the win.
Connor Hellebuyck turned 28 of the 32 shots he faced, including two of the three shootout attempts. Knight stopped 37 of the 41 shots he faced, but turned away just one of the three shootout attempts.
The Jets are back in action on Sunday when they take on the Edmonton Oilers at home.
