INEOS are hoping to raise substantial transfer funds via player sales when the summer window opens.
The likes of Jadon Sancho, whose loan deal includes a £20-25 million obligation to buy, will provide an early boost for Manchester United when they market – unless Chelsea opt to pay a £5m penalty to bypass the clause entirely.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s terms give Aston Villa the option of signing him permanently for £40m. He has generally impressed since swapping his boyhood club for the Midlands outfit and even notched two crucial goals yesterday to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
United chiefs will bid farewell to one senior quartet for nothing when Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton depart as free agents at the end of June.
Ajax confirm interest in Eriksen reunion
Evans, 37, and Heaton, 38, are expected to pull the curtains on their playing careers entirely, while the Nordic duo certainly still have more to give for other European clubs.
For 33-year-old Eriksen, he’s already been linked with a host of sides keen to take on a technical, experienced midfielder for nothing. Ajax, the club where he spent five years and made the breakthrough from the youth ranks to senior player, have established their interest in a reunion this summer – 12 years on from his exit in 2013.
“He (Eriksen) is one of the players who has performed fantastically with us in the past that we are thinking about [signing],” said Sporting Director Marijn Beuker, as cited by ESPN.
“There will be multiples in the media. Other names mentioned are those of Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind. Such players are always an option. To look at it. It has to fit into the phase we are in, though. In the salary structure. You also don’t want to block youth players coming up.
“That we are open to thinking about it is clear. Only it has to fit into the overall picture for the future.”
