Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim shut down reports linking club captain Bruno Fernandes with a move to Real Madrid. The Portuguese tactician insists his compatriot remains a key player for the Red Devils.
Fernandes has been instrumental in United’s recent resurgence under Amorim. The Reds are unbeaten in four games (how the mighty have fallen), with the playmaker contributing seven goals and three assists in his last seven matches.
His terrific form and consistency inevitably attracted interest from Europe’s elite, but Amorim was unequivocal when addressing the rumours.
“I want Bruno here because, maybe in the lowest moments of our season, he impressed the most,” Amorim said (via Sky Sports). “We want to win the Premier League again, so we need the best players to stay with us.”
Despite turning 29 this year, Fernandes remains a relentless force on the pitch, consistently producing goals and assists.
“He plays 55 games every season,” Amorim continued. “Between assists and goals, he’s involved in at least 30. He’s the type of player we want here, so he’s not going anywhere.”
Pressed on how he could be so certain about Fernandes’ future, Amorim reassured fans. “We are in control of the situation, and I feel he is really happy here. He understands our vision, and I believe he is one more supporter of Manchester United. He truly feels what it means to play for this club.”
This season, Fernandes has netted 16 goals across all competitions. He is the top scorer at Man Utd, with no other teammate reaching double digits.
In the Premier League, Fernandes’ combined tally of 31 goals and assists is bettered only by Mohamed Salah (54) and Erling Haaland (33).
However, United continue to struggle in the Premier League as they sit in 13th place ahead of their crucial clash against third-placed Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
United face a crucial summer transfer window as they look to bounce back from this disappointing campaign. They need to build around Fernandes. He is the most consistent player on the United roster, and they must do everything to keep him.
