Texas A&M lands a commitment from Kansas transfer forward

New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan has gained two commitments from the transfer portal this weekend. Former North Alabama star guard Jacari Lane was the first name to join the 2025-2026 roster, while Sunday's news that Kansas center Zach Clemence, a San Antonio (TX) native, is the second name to join the first-year head coaches' roster.

McMillan's aggressive, fast-paced system requires athleticism at every position. While Zach Clemence has been a low-scoring rotational player during his three-year career with the Jayhawks, his minutes never drastically increased due to the talent ahead of him, resulting in little movement during his time in Lawrence.

Still, McMillan is looking for players that fit his system, and Clemence's 6'11" frame and floor spacing ability make him a potential riser, as he will likely see the court much more due to the presumed lack of depth in front court. This type of addition requires patience before the season for fans unaware of what he brings onto the court.

During his final season with Kansas, Clemence averaged 1.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and shot 44% from the field.

This is also a "prove it" year for Clemence, who has one year of eligibility remaining before ending the workforce or pursuing a pro career. Overall, this is a win-win and just the start of what should be a productive week of basketball-related news coming out of College Station.
