Heading into the 2025 season, a growing concern surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense is Minkah Fitzpatrick's recent fall from glory. After two less-than-spectacular seasons, trading Fitzpatrick away may seem like the only solution—a notion insider Ray Fittipaldo recently shot down.
Fittipaldo, in Wednesday's Steelers Chat on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, was asked why the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't looking to move on from Fitzpatrick in exchange for quality draft capital—and he didn't hold back in his response:
"What's the trade market for an aging safety with a $22 million cap hit? I'll tell you. Nonexistent."
Yikes. Well, it honestly doesn't take inside information to understand that Fitzpatrick has been a shell of his former self over the past two seasons—though it remains to be seen whether the blame falls solely on his shoulders or on DC Teryl Austin.
However, it is clear that Fitzpatrick's contract is terrible for the Steel City, and the Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to force their free safety to take a pay cut sooner rather than later.
