The drama linking quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Cleveland Browns just will not go away.
After Cousins was in Cleveland last week, for what was described as a "non-football" reason, one NFL insider continues to hear buzz between the two sides. The Athletic's Diana Russini has stated that she gets the sense talks are happening between the Browns and the Atlanta Falcons around the veteran quarterback. Here is what Russini had to say:
"I don't know how far along it is right now. I just know there is enough smoke around this and enough conversation being had that this wouldn't be a surprising move. Knowing Kevin Stefanski coached Kirk Cousins when he was in Minnesota, it makes a lot of sense on why that would work."
Stefanski was Cousins' quarterbacks coach in 2018 and his offensive coordinator in 2019 before he was hired by the Browns in 2020. Cleveland's quarterback room sits with only Kenny Pickett as the healthy option ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. General manager Andrew Berry has stated that the room will get younger, meaning they will draft one. However, a trade for Cousins to compete with Pickett is not off the table.
Cousins has stated that he will not waive his no-trade clause until he knows the team he will be going to is not using a high draft pick on a quarterback to avoid the same situation he fell into last year. If the Browns pass on a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick and instead select a name like Alabama's Jalen Milroe at the top of the second round instead, that may be enough for Cousins to waive his no-trade clause and come to Cleveland.
