NFL insider: 'Starting to feel' like New York Giants will pass on Shedeur Sanders

The New York Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft and many prognosticators believe they will select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, whom they heavily scouted throughout the 2024 college season.

However, after signing veteran free agents Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, general manager Joe Schoen left the door open to targeting different positions while speaking to reporters at the NFL owners' meetings earlier this week.

"We can go any which direction," Schoen said, via NJ Advance Media. "It doesn't force you into a corner or force you to have to take something based on need.

"We're in a position where we can take who we think is the best football player at that time."

Head coach Brian Daboll shared similar sentiments, which sets the stage for the Giants to target players like Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter if they're still available. They could also trade down.

Whatever they decide to do, it seems like they are trending away from the quarterback position at No. 3 overall.

During a recent interview with The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN insider and podcast host Adam Schefter suggested exactly that.

"It certainly feels like the Cleveland Browns are inclined to look elsewhere, aside from quarterback," Schefter said. "And it's starting to feel like the New York Giants at No. 3 are starting to look elsewhere other than quarterback.

"So if the Browns don't take Shedeur Sanders at two and if the Giants don't take Shedeur Sanders at three -- and that is the feel that I am getting recently -- where is Shedeur Sanders going?"

It is lying season, so this could all be an elaborate (or not so elaborate) smokescreen. It could also be a reality that the Giants don't view the second quarterback tier of the 2025 class behind Cam Ward to be all that impressive.
