The Boston Celtics hold the best road record in the NBA, improving to 32-7 with their win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday Night, capping off an undefeated 6-0 road trip. The flawless trip on the road was the first time in franchise history that the Celtics went undefeated on a road trip of six or more games, further cementing how good they've been in enemy territory this season.
Speaking to reporters after his team's ninth consecutive win, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked why he feels the team excels on the road, to which he responded that they play well no matter where they play. For Mazzulla, he believes the domination on the road is what the team's identity has become in the 2024-25 season, which should power them going into the playoffs.
"I would venture to say that our guys are good everywhere," Mazzulla said in his post-game press conference. "I think every year just takes on a different identity and different challenges. This year, we never talked about it, it just became what it is, I think we try to play consistent basketball and it's only a four or five game difference to our record at home. It's more about playing consistent basketball. I think each year you develop different strengths and this year it just happened to be our road mentality."
The Celtics are no strangers to playing in hostile territory, especially in the playoffs, and they'll need to carry that momentum from this regular season into next month's playoffs. It says a lot about the team having the best record in the NBA on the road, but they know they'll have to have balanced success and effort both on the road and at home when the games matter most.
