The Boston Celtics capped off a six-game road trip in Memphis on Monday night, sweeping the entire trip with wins after a tough matchup against the Grizzlies. Splitting the season series against Memphis and getting revenge for a loss earlier this year, Boston capped off an undefeated road trip of six or more games in franchise history, thanks to a performance from Al Horford that turned back the clocks with a season-high 26 points.
Horford's season-best night led the way coupled with Jayson Tatum's 25 points and 14 rebounds, as Boston, the team with the best road record in the NBA added to it in the final stretch of the regular season. The win over Memphis continued recent dominance over the Grizzlies as they've won 7 of 8 against the Grizzlies, with the best defense in the league in the month of March, and a league-best 14-1 record in the month as well. Boston's win was also their ninth consecutive win as they're starting to hit their championship stride with the playoffs around the corner.
Here's a quick recap of the Celtics win in Memphis:
Keys to the game:
Al Horford's season-best night: Coming off the bench with Jaylen Brown out due to injury while Xavier Tillman Sr. took his place in the starting lineup, Horford turned back the clocks with his 26-point outpour. Leading the team with six made 3-pointers on the night, Horford shot 50% overall on the night and 9 rebounds to go along with his team-high in points. Derrick White also made some history in the win, surpassing Isaiah Thomas for most made 3-pointers in a single season in franchise history (245) on the year.
Everyone touched the ball: Dishing out 30 team assists, the Celtics' unselfish play was never more evident than in the second quarter when they assisted on 13 of their 16 made team field goals in the frame. That was the team's second-highest assist total in a quarter since they had 14 in the second quarter against the Clippers on November 25 this season. Getting everyone's hands on the ball puts the defensive in uncomfortable position allowing Boston to take advantage when they were able to catch the Grizzlies.
Highlight of the game: Derrick White makes franchise history for most 3-pointers in a single season
