Former Wisconsin and Seton Hall forward Gus Yalden committed to Vermont on Tuesday.
Yalden reentered the portal last week after one season at Seton Hall. The 6'9" forward appeared in 26 games in 2024-25 with the Pirates, averaging 8.4 minutes, 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
The La Porte, Indiana, native originally joined the Badgers as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, ranked as the No. 128 player in the country and No. 17 center. He was Wisconsin's highest-rated player in the class, edging out forward Nolan Winter (No. 153 overall, No. 34 power forward) and John Blackwell (No. 209 overall, No. 29 combo guard). Winter and Blackwell are set to be program cornerstones over the next few seasons, while Yalden did not appear in a game in his one season in Madison.
Yalden now joins a Vermont program that is consistently ranked as one of the best in the American East Conference. The Catamounts have become an NCAA Tournament regular, with three straight appearances from 2022-24 and five dating back to 2017.
However, the Catamounts missed the Big Dance in 2024-25, as they fell to Maine in the conference tournament semifinals.
Excited to announce my commitment to the University of Vermont!

Extremely blessed for this new chapter in Burlington, beyond thankful for Coach Becker and his staff for this opportunity! Go Catamounts! pic.twitter.com/sLqqbPWEwg
Yalden should have a path to playing time on a Vermont team that finished 2024-25 ranked No. 242 in KenPom. He'll look to improve upon his numbers as a redshirt freshman at Seton Hall and work to fulfill his top recruiting billing.
