High School Scoreboard: Recaps and results from Thursday's games

BASEBALL

Division I

Cumberland 4, Smithfield 0

Liam Monahan pitched a complete game one-hitter, compiling 12 strikeouts along the way as the Clippers shut out the Sentinels. Cumberland's offense was led by Aidan Ray, who had 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Joshua Lyon, whose hit and sacrifice fly drove in the other 2 runs.

Hailey Vigneau, La Salle softball

SOFTBALL

Division I

La Salle 10, Prout 0

Under the 10-run mercy rule, La Salle shut out Prout behind the pitching of Hailey Vigneau, whose record now is 3-0. Vigneau gave up only one hit and struck out nine of the 16 batters she faced. Diana Hall led the offense with 2 hits, 3 RBI and a walk. Nikki Pallotta contributed 2 hits and 3 runs, while Phoenyx Silva also had 2 hits and scored twice. Mia Boyajian got the lone hit for Prout.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division I

North Kingstown 17, Cumberland 6

Led by the play of Xanders Viens, who found the back of the net four times, and teammates Brady Bennett and Colin Petrella, who scored three goals apiece, the Skippers breezed to victory over the Clippers. Sean Taylor had a hat trick for Cumberland in the loss.

Moses Brown 13, Portsmouth 6

Reese Chase scored 3 goals and added 4 helpers, Peter Sarnowski also had 3 goals and sophomore Chris Smith tallied twice and had 3 assists as the Quakers were no match for the Patriots on this night. Also contributing to the win was another sophomore, Joe Magiera, who buried 2 goals and had an assist. Teddy Gersen scored 3 times and Robert Mairs twice for Portsmouth in the loss.

Westerly 17, Mt. Hope 7

Ian Morissette led his Westerly team to victory with 4 goals and was helped by Caleb Williams with 3 scores. Michael Gervasini tallied 2 goals and 2 assists and Evan Morissette scored 2 goals for the Bulldogs.

For the Huskies, Charles Knapman led the counterattack with 4 goals while Aedan Nelson tallied 2. Brayden Vales contributed 1 goal while Benjamin Browne and Noah Sweeney ended up with an assist each.

Westerly goaltender Samuel Brimlow recorded 5 saves and Alex Mynuk, who relieved Brimlow in the fourth quarter, had 2 saves. Mt. Hope netminder, Ethan LaBollita, had 14 saves on 29 shots.
