⚾BASEBALL
Division I
Cumberland 8, Portsmouth 3
The Clippers offense started chugging along with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before exploding for a 5-spot in the final frame. Ryan Harris led the way with 3 RBIs on 2-4 hitting. Aidan Ray drove in a pair, going 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Ben Jahnz earned the complete-game victory, fanning 8 and walking 2 while allowing 2 earned runs.
For the Patriots, Damon Owen collected a pair of hits and a run scored in the loss. Cam Ruggieri struck out 5 over 5.2 innings.
North Kingstown 3, La Salle 2
Bodie Forsell went the distance on the mound and Jason Pelletier drove home the winning run as the Skippers edged the Rams, 3-2, on Opening Day at sunny Lischio Field.
Forsell allowed a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and shut La Salle down from there, striking out eight. The right-hander helped his own cause in the bottom of the first with a run-scoring triple to center.
Pelletier snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the second with a single through the right side. Nick Martucci led off with a double down the line in left and came home with the eventual winning run for North Kingstown (1-0).
Adryan Urena sent a two-run double to deep center to give the Rams (0-1) an early 2-0 lead. Matt DeStefanis started and worked the first five innings for La Salle.
Lincoln 5, Mt. Hope 3
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the top of seventh inning, Caden Oldham singled home two runs to lift the Lions to victory in this Division I affair. Oldham led the team with 3 RBI on the afternoon and leadoff batter Carson Mellen drove in a pair, going 2-4 on the day. Lincoln's Isaac Cabral struck out 8 over 5 innings.
The Huskies' Logan Dubois plated 3 runs with a first-inning triple and starter Ethan Santerre struck out 11 batters over 5 innings, allowing just 1 run.
Coventry 8, Westerly 2
A three-hit game for LJ Stembridge, a two-run blast by Aiden Riley and Gabe Lopez's three RBI was the recipe for the Oakers' 8-2 win over Westerly.
