Another week of high school sports is behind us, and it's time to recognize outstanding performances from Cumberland County student-athletes with the 910Preps Athlete of the Week award.
Nominees are listed in our poll below, but first, here's a rundown of spring conference standings.
In All American Conference baseball, Pine Forest and Terry Sanford share the league lead with Overhills at 9-1. The Trojans host the Jaguars this Tuesday and play at Overhills on April 11. The Bulldogs have already split their regular-season series against the Jags 1-1, and they will host the Trojans on April 22, with a rematch three days later at Pine Forest.
Lumberton leads the United 8 Conference baseball standings with a 9-1 record and a one-game lead over Cape Fear, which the Pirates have beaten twice this season. The Colts lead a three-way race for second with Gray's Creek and South View.
In the private-school baseball ranks, Freedom Christian has an 8-0 record in the NCISAA Sandhills Conference, with second-place Village Christian three games behind.
Gray's Creek softball is undefeated in U8 play with a 10-0 league record and a one-game lead over South View, with Cape Fear two games behind the Bears. The Tigers get another shot at the Bears on Thursday at South View.
In the AAC softball standings, three Harnett County teams hold the top three spots, led by Harnett Central, which is unbeaten in league play. Pine Forest sits in fourth place.
