The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been active this offseason in building up their defense. They brought back franchise legend and future Hall of Famer Lavonte David, they added Haason Reddick, but they need more. Jason Licht has spoken about adding some more youth at edge rusher and a possible position change is on the table for Tykee Smith.
Despite the potential for more moves, the Bucs may have been thrown a life preserver on Sunday.
The Las Vegas Raiders released starting cornerback Jack Jones on Sunday. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported the move and noted that the team tried to trade him, but the lack of market interest resulted in them just cutting bait from the player. Jones started in 16 games in 2024 for the Raiders and had a career-high of three interceptions.
Jones could be had on a cheap deal for the Bucs as a veteran cornerback being cut so late in the offseason. He will likely want to sign before the NFL Draft because finding a home after may prove tough after the fact. The team has a lot of youth at the cornerback position, but adding someone like Jones would be a welcome addition to a group that is hoping for a bounce-back year in 2025.
