The Seattle Seahawks could be reuniting with a familiar face for the 2025 season! According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks are meeting with one of the top free agents available, and it's one they are intimately familiar with: cornerback Shaquill Griffin.
Griffin, the former Seahawk, is coming off a strong season with the Minnesota Vikings. Apparently quarterback Sam Darnold was not the only veteran journeyman to revive his career in the Twin Cities last year.

Originally a third round selection (No. 90 overall) by Seattle during the 2017 NFL draft, Griffin emerged as a strong starter for the Seahawks in their secondary. His best season came in 2019 when he recorded 65 tackles and defended 13 passes. While Griffin did not snag an interception that year, his efforts were more than good enough to earn him his first and only Pro Bowl nod of his career.
Griffin's time in the Emerald City came to a conclusion once his rookie deal expired. He signed a three-year, $45 million dollar contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but only played two years in Duval County. After his stint with the Jags, he signed with their division rivals, the Houston Texans, but was released midway through the 2023 campaign.
From there, Griffin has bounced around the league. He quickly signed with the Carolina Panthers after his release by Houston, and in 2024 landed with the Vikings. As previously mentioned, the decision was a smart one, as he showed the rest of the league he still has plenty to offer in the secondary.
Cornerback may not seem like a position of need for the Seahawks, but finding legitimate depth there is a more pressing issue than folks may realize. If you recall, Seattle did draft two corners in the 2024 NFL draft a mere year ago. Translation: head coach Mike Macdonald is still looking to shape the secondary in his image. Perhaps reuniting with Griffin will help give the Hawks the depth he is seeking.
