The NFL draft is later this month and the Arizona Cardinals will be putting together their player rankings. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah recently updated his top 50 players and we broke the top 50 down by position.
As the Cardinals have different positional needs, let's take a look at each position group and who might be a target with either of their two top picks, No. 16 and No. 47 overall.
Let's look at the cornerback, a position the Cardinals have addressed a lot in two years. They signed Sean Murphy-Bunting in free agency last year and have drafted five cornerbacks, three in the top 90, in the last two years. Clearly, drafting another one is possible.
In Jeremiah's top 50 players, seven are cornerbacks.
Cornerbacks in Daniel Jeremiah's top 50 prospects
- Travis Hunter, Colorado: No. 2 overall
- Jahdae Barron, Texas: No. 11 overall
- Will Johnson, Michigan: No. 14 overall
- Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky: No. 35 overall
- Benjamin Morrison, Notre Dame: No. 40 overall
- Trey Amos, Ole Miss: No. 42 overall
- Azareye'h Thomas, Florida State: No. 50 overall
Who could the Cardinals get?
Hunter will go in the top three of the draft and is the favorite to be selected second overall. Both Barron and Johnson could be selected before the Cardinals make their pick at No. 16 overall, but both have been mocked to the Cardinals.
I haven't seen any mock drafts with any of the other cornerbacks going to the Cardinals in the second round.
If they draft a cornerback, it will be a guy they love. Their cornerback room is pretty full. They have Murphy-Bunting, standout slot corner Garrett Williams and drafted Max Melton in the second round last year. Star Thomas returns and Elijah Jones, a third-round pick last year, has yet to see any action.
