Harris wins Illinois
Vice President Harris has won Illinois in the 2024 presidential election, securing its 19 Electoral College votes in the process, according to a Decision Desk HQ projection.
A Republican last won Illinois in 1988, and the populous Democratic stronghold of Chicago has made the state largely noncompetitive in national elections in recent cycles, including all three with Donald Trump as the GOP nominee.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) was a top Harris booster and was briefly considered as a potential running mate after Harris replaced President Biden atop the Democratic ticket.
