Harris wins California
Vice President Harris has won her home state of California, scoring a victory in the Western Democratic stronghold, Decision Desk HQ projects.
Harris taking California’s 54 electoral votes was expected. She hails from San Francisco, and the last time a Republican won the state was President George H.W. Bush in 1988.
The vice president previously was a senator from California from 2017 before leaving for the Biden administration in 2021. Before that, she was attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was district attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.
Harris was born in Oakland and her husband, Doug Emhoff, was a longtime Los Angeles entertainment and media lawyer.
The vice president didn’t spend much time campaigning in California, other than to fundraise at high-dollar events. She traveled to San Francisco and Los Angeles in late September as part of a West Coast swing but otherwise was focused on visiting swing states as opposed to blue states before election day.
Former President Trump traveled to Coachella, Calif., for a rally on Oct. 13 as part of a blue state swing that also included a rally in Colorado.
