Carville suggests early results look concerning for Harris
Democratic strategist James Carville suggested on Tuesday that early results for Vice President Harris in the 2024 presidential election look concerning.
“Loudoun County, Virginia’s not great. Think Dulles Airport, suburban Washington — [I] think [President Biden] was like 62 percent in 2020. I’m seeing 57, 58 right now,” Carville said while on Amazon’s live election coverage panel “Election Night Live” hosted by Brian Williams.
“There are troubling signs out there, but we got a big vote coming out of Philadelphia,” the veteran consultant added. “Let’s just wait a second. Let’s see what happens in North Carolina and Georgia, but I would be less than honest if I didn’t say the early indications here are not sterling.”
Decision Desk HQ projected Tuesday night, following Carville’s remarks, that North Carolina and Georgia, two battleground states, were won by Harris’s rival, former President Trump.
Carville, who recently doubled down that the Democratic nominee will triumph in the White House race, pointed to a spike in turnout in Pennsylvania, a swing state with 19 Electoral College votes, as a possible brighter spot.
“Talking about a 50,000, 100,000 increase in democratic votes in Philadelphia,” Carville said on Tuesday. “So that should absolve something. That should absolve a lot; and some of the stuff I see out of Georgia is, obviously, more encouraging than Florida. Anything is more encouraging than that.”
In a recently published op-ed in The New York Times, Carville shared three reasons why he thought Harris would win in 2024. The veteran Democratic adviser highlighted the Republicans’ losing record since 2018, the vice president’s fundraising advantage, and the American people’s will to reject Trump one more time.
