Vote for Louisville-area high school girls athlete of the week before polls close Thursday

The nominees for this week's Courier Journal girls athlete of the week delivered on the softball field.

Voting is underway for The Courier Journal's girls athlete of the week. The poll closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced Friday.

Here are the nominees:

Jozie Lashley, Oldham County softball

In 3 2/3 innings pitched, senior Jozie Lashley didn't allow a hit and struck out nine batters in the Colonels' 19-6 victory over Talawanda (Oxford, Ohio).

Olivia Colebank, Mercy softball

Senior Olivia Colebank pitched a shutout and struck out seven batters in the Jaguars' 10-0 win over Central (Burlington, Illinois).

Kaylee Fitzner, South Oldham softball

Senior Kaylee Fitzner went 5 for 5 at the plate, with two RBIs and led South Oldham to victory over Owensboro.

Payton Downey, Ballard softball

Eighth-grader Payton Downey recorded four hits and six RBIs in the Bruins' loss to Springfield (Holland, Ohio).

Ella Wells, Assumption softball

Freshman Ella Wells went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate in Assumption's win over Muhlenberg County.
