Urban Meyer Makes March Madness Prediction

Former Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer won two national titles in 2006 and 2008, but was all about March Madness recently.

To the surprise of no one, Meyer predicted that Florida would win the NCAA Tournament on a recent episode of "The Triple Option."

After winning the SEC Tournament title over the Tennessee Volunteers, Florida claimed the top seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament.

The Gators beat No. 16 seed Norfolk State in the 1st Round 95-69 and survived a scare from the No. 8 seeded UConn Huskies 77-75 on Sunday to advance to the Sweet 16.

"I got Florida," Meyer said. "...I'll say it right now. I think Florida is going to win it all."

While the Gators have a lot of momentum heading into the Sweet 16, it has been a long time since they have won a national title in college basketball.

Florida last won March Madness in consecutive years during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons.

Florida head coach Todd Golden made his first NCAA Tournament appearance with the Gators last season. However, the Gators did not advance past the 1st Round, losing to the Colorado Buffaloes 102-100

Golden returned Walter Clayton Jr., Alex Condon, Will Richard, Micah Handlogten, and others. Florida reloaded its roster through the transfer portal, with key additions of Alijah Martin (FAU), Reuben Chinyelu (Washington State), and Sam Alexis (Chattanooga).

Florida's two leading scorers this season have been Clayton (17.9) and Martin (14.6).

The Gators' next opponent will be the No. 4 seeded Maryland Terrapins. Maryland is fresh off a buzzer-beater from center Derik Queen against No. 12 seed Colorado State.

Florida and Maryland face off Thursday at 7:39 p.m. ET on TBS.
